Things to do on a Penang getaway

Since it's a Thursday night and there's no class tmr, I'm gonna spend the night writing this post before I hit the bed. Today's post is obviously written on the title above, hahaha. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of article's or blog post on this entry d but nevertheless, I would say this entry is your not-so-typical Penang trip. So if you're searching for typical Penang tourist attractions and foods, I guess there's other entries from other bloggers that might have already repeated more than a 100x abt the same places and food, just different authors, lol but if you're just searching for a relaxing thing to do, tune in!

It was my last week of work, and I pretty much need a getaway, like literally getaway doing ntg for my vacation, totally time off before I start my preparation to the UK, read previous entry here to read how hectic it was. It was a spontaneous and super random trip, super last minute like literally planned it 2weeks before we head to Penang for 3days 2 nights.

Day 1:

*Disclaimer : All images from Gurney View Inn Facebook.
I would say if you're on a budget trip, I reckon this hotel can give you a comfortable night to sleep in, after all hotel is just a place to let you put a night right? Since its holiday is all about heading out and exploring.

But.... thats not the case for us lol. Me and my friend started our journey at 6am, and after stopping by Gurney Paragon for lunch and some shopping, we literally laid our asses in the hotel since 3pm during check in time till 7pm dinner time lol. Although not a 5 star hotel but still very comfortable to sleep in! And I think we literally just slept throughout the whole getaway, make this hotel super worth staying in our trip! hahaha
The view right outside the hotel. Just cross the main road and it's literally right infront of your eyes.
I would say this is a good pick? Since it's so near the main tourist eateries and shopping mall. I'm actually so free tonight that I even photoshop the diagrams out, lol.

So since we slept all the way till 7pm, my friend just googled what is good to eat somewhr near Nagore street just because I wanna go visit thr, and we ended up eating at What The Duck.
Quite hipster la this place, with the newly constructed and conserved shophouses. I really liked how Penang and Singapore renovate their interior to be modern and the shophouses exterior elevation to looks like how ever since it was build.
Don't know is good there so order this that was recommended by the waitress. When it was served, I didn't really pay attention to the plate until my friend asked me : "Is that a floor tile?" and then..... only I realised yeah it was a floor tile. As an architect, in the office looking at so many floor tile samples d and now to eat on a floor tile? Don't really liked the thought of it but aiya doesn't matter la, for them it's culinary arts, food need to be presentable so I eat 'em anyways, hahaha.

Oh btw, funniest joke of the night. My friend is a Muslim but half Chinese Malay, and she's the one who googled this place but forgotten to check whether is it halal or not. And when I was going through the menu and then I realised they mix wine in some of their food and ask: " Eh, the menu got wine u can eat meh? dont think this place halal leh. How come you google you never google whether you can eat or not meh? hahaha" Double confirmed with the waitress that it's non-halal, lol.
OH AND THIS, MUST TRY. I give 3 thumbs up! I foursquared what's nice here and everybody recommending this desert. So decided to give it a shot lor. Since my friend not really THAT particular, as long as the dish dont serve any alcohols she's fine with it, soooo.... makan only lor. AND NO REGRETS MAN, NO REGRETS. Btw, I think this dessert is called salted egg brownie ice-cream? smtg like tht I think but just ordered it anyways, won't regret.
I'm always hoping for food bloggers to put a non-halal sign when I search up for some restaurants but it doesnt exist. Quite troublesome to always google for a few blogs beforehand. So, I'm trying to help some friend's out here, just to ease your life. haha.

Loving the view across the street. Back alley romance <3 p="">

Headed to Straits Quay after that, to get her dinner fixed. Go all the way to Penang and Straits Quay just to eat DOME. Hahahaha.
Took a nice stroll along the sidewalks and a nice conversation about our goals and future. Love how we're spending quality time to update ourselves just by strolling and chatting not doing anything else (although we see each other almost every week during the past 3 mths, hahahah).
Night view outside the hotel. Although looks quite romantic to stroll along the sidewalks but sorry it's damn smelly I really cannot tahan!

Day 2:

Woke up early for assam laksa! My friend really loved this though I still prefer the one at Ayer Itam. Omg super love that one man, thinking abt it now in UK, where to get my cravings fixed?!
I think we woke up arnd 10-ish? Our plan was to head the beach at 4pm and just chill and relax thr and since still early, we even headed to Starbucks, hahaha just because I think we wanted to get smtg but the uncle dont wanna sell cuz too many orders?
Omg, loved the whole exterior and elevation details. How I wished KL got buildings like that with well maintained building instead of demolishing it all and build skyscrapers.
Even the Starbucks here also cooler than so many places lol. Although they are many Starbucks in many countries that are more prettier than this! But still!! Think I haven't gotten any chance to spot this arnd KL except the ones either in a shopping mall or the side corner of shoplots, or a petrol station drive-thru.
Heading to the beach abt 3.30-4 ish? and saw so many ppl crowding this uncle for this? I thought I saw some ppl slurping some assam laksa so we thought it was a mini laksa to go which is famous that we don't even knw? End up are all these small snacks and we actually bought a few but dumped it all cuz we totally forgotten about it after we're back frm the beach.
Hard rock cafe was our to go beach, just because I had good memories there with some other friends a few years back and thought it was a fun beach. So I got my sunglasses on, my beach hat on AND TO REALIZE that it was gonna rain when we were on our way up -.- My friend keep telling me its the hat that I'm wearing thats why it's raining -.- so we ended up chilling at Hardrock cafe with some beers and wings to the rain to settle while waiting.
OMG, chicken wings were the bomb! Ahh, missing these right now :/

Since its raining and the beach is wet so we called it a day and head back to town lor. Blasting music all the way back to hotel and otw we thought wanna go cheong k but too tired so ended up back in hotel sleeping again, hahaha. Head out for dinner at Gurney drive, omg this charkuayteow sucks man. It was just like half a yr ago I was eating in this same stall, either they standard has drop or it has been that bad all these while :/
Fire for cheong k haven't died down and we still decided to go cheong k just because we felt like it, but the closest and cheapest we can get is Redbox, which is a NO la cuz their pricing damn ridiculous can! Per head can cost up to RM60 whrelse Loudspeaker only like what? Half the price or even cheaper! Super ripped off, I'm not stepping my foot there ever again not unless they compete with Loudspeaker's price. End up going back hotel and sleep again, HAHAHHA.

Day 3:
Decided not to wear the hat just in case, and all skies are clear! So when we reached the beach, I put my hat back on again, just for the beach feel. HAHHAHA. I think we literally sat at the bench for like 20mins before we decided to buy some bubbles and step down the beach hahaha.
 Super poser can!
Imagine two 23yr olds playing with a bubble?! haha but don't judge! We're all child in heart ^_^
Decided to chill on the rocks before picking up her mom and bro at the airport before heading to lunch. ANDDDD, think we spend like abt 10mins and start gan cheong and flying to airport the fastest we could along with the bike marathon they decided to have tht day. :/
AHAHHAHA, non stop posing! See, like I stated in the beginning of my entry that this isn't a typical Penang trip. We don't do typical attraction spots, or eat famous food that people travel all the way down just to eat that particular stall. We literall EAT. SLEEP. REPEAT. hahaaha. Super worth our money for the hotel, lol.

I'm loving and missing this trip so much! Well, just because we're literally doing nothing and just getting to spend some quality time to catch up with each other and be stupid and fooling arnd each othr before I fly off and she goes back to medical school. All the bimbo moments hahaha.

- Shit this blog post took me 2hrs to draft out, just because I was laughing my ass off and reminiscing the whole trip all over again. I'm anticipating the next trip already! MUST. START. PLANNING.
